A couple of days ago, Google unveiled Personalized Search. This is a radical change from the Universal Search, which was launched in 2007. The latter is the platform that brought us video thumbnails, blog posts, news content, and images within the search results. Now, Personalized Search is bound to change how people find information on the internet.

While Google released comprehensive information about the new Google Personalized Search, there is still a lot of confusion as to how it will affect ranking exactly. According to its guidelines, the searches of users who are logged in will be encrypted. Thus, search marketers won’t be able to access the keywords they’re typing in. Accordingly, there are various concerns about the quality and refinement of future results.

The main reason behind these developments seems to be a push forward in the social media industry. Google+ will be integrated with the tech giant’s search function. Indeed, many say that it will favor its own sites compared to other social networks such as Twitter and Facebook. Many experts in the search industry believes that with this update, the results will be biased towards certain sources, making them appear majority of the time.

One thing to note though is that when users are not logged to their Google account while searching, they will still receive the Universal results page. As of now, many users who have tried the new features of Personalized Search are disappointed by the irrelevant results they got. The reason is that the data set Google uses is associated with the Google email account and social network. Only time will tell if this will improve and become popular among web users.

If this manages to catch on, users can expect better results from the update. After all, like any other platform that draws from user information, the more people who sign up to Google+, the more relevant the results will be. Right now, the blend of personal and general results can be confusing and time-consuming. Whatever the case, it is expected that search queries for People and Places will become better on Google in the near future.

As an internet marketer or blogger, these developments will have a significant impact on your business. It’s time to take proactive action by investing time and resources in understanding how Personalized Search will impact your business. There will be winners, and there will be losers. Which side will you be on?

Anyone who owns a website will tell you, success on the internet lies in effective search engine optimization tactics. It is probably the most cost-effective way to gain continuous and sustainable levels of traffic to your website. If you’re ranked in the first page of the search results, the traffic you’ll receive will be very substantial. While SEO presents a lot of opportunities, it is also important to realize that the wrong tactic may have some consequences.

Some of the effects may be short-lived but are strategies that can completely cripple your website’s ability to rank properly. For example, hiring the wrong SEO company may do more harm than good if they use black hat tactics such as spamming. There are certain strategies that the search engines frown upon. Websites that uses these may see the effect on their search results:

Unnatural links – if you spam various low-PR (PageRank) websites with your URL and anchor texts, it will look unnatural. Getting 1,000 links in one day from directories, for example, may make it seem like you used to robot to acquire these links.

Links from bad neighborhoods – getting links from sites that are banned from Google will adversely affect your rankings. For example, it may be easy to get links from gambling and mature websites but these links are certainly not worth getting.

Mirror sites – in the past, mirror sites were a common way to cheap the search engine algorithm. As Google’s technology developed though, it is now easy to catch these activities. Nevertheless, there are some marketers that insist on creating mirror sites to create hyperlinks to their home page.

There is also the risk of choosing the wrong keyword. You might appear on the Top 1 for an extremely competitive keyword but that might not be a “converting keyword”. For example, if you’re selling watches, then being number one for the term “watches” may look impressive at first glance until you look at the sales figure. A website that ranks for specific brands such as “Omega Seamaster Watch” may get better sales than you. That’s why it is important to ensure that you target the correct search terms. The traffic you’ll receive will then be highly targeted and lead to increased sales.

At the end of the day, it’s about formulating your search engine optimization (SEO) strategy correctly. The results of your efforts will be well-worth it. So commit the time, effort, and resources to the planning stages. It is as important as the actual implementation of the tactics.

How to Submit Articles to Get More From Your Blog Content by Mike Lawson

If you want to learn about how to leverage your blog content through article distribution then read this article all the way to the end. Specifically, I’ll cover how to post your article on your blog, submit to article directories, and submit to blog carnivals. After you’re done with this article you should be able to get more targeted traffic and increase your sales. Posting your article on your blog is vital to getting the most from your article marketing. The reason is that not everyone uses article directories to find information or blog content. If you have a following of loyal readers already, they won’t go to the article directories looking for your articles. They will come to your site. You want to make it as convenient as possible for them to find your articles. Your next step is to submit to the article directories. This step is vital to getting more traffic and sales from your sites. You want to get the widest possible distribution so that those who read articles for information will find you.
Submitting to article directories also allows you to build backlinks to your websites, which is an important search engine optimization strategy. Article marketing is one of the few opportunities you have to combine several effective internet marketing techniques to increase your traffic and sales.
One thing I would recommend is that you invest in a good article submission service. Although this will cost you a little money, it is well worth the effort because of all the time it will save you. Look for a submission service that submits your articles to top article directories, as well as smaller, more niche related directories. The most important thing is to make sure you get the widest possible distribution for the price because this will help you increase your backlinks easily without a lot of extra work on your part. Submitting your articles to blog carnivals is another way to easily leverage your articles. The reason is that it allows you to increase your exposure even further by submitting where most article marketer don’t submit. In other words, you are submitting your content where a different but overlapping market has a chance to see your content. This is people who enjoy reading blogs but might not have read yours.
Just as you would submit your articles to article directories to increase your traffic and sales, make sure you submit regularly to the blog carnivals. Constantly updated content is more likely to be read than content that isn’t fresh.
Each of these techniques is an easy way to get more traffic to your web sites, especially if you have a blog. Combined together, they will increase your traffic and sales exponentially. Done consistently, you will build an audience of readers who are interested in what you have to say. With a loyal following, you will increase your traffic and sales easily because your readers will rely on you for recommendations. Don’t take them for granted.

As with all good jokes, they become worn and tired with time. Lyons is making a good move leaving while the blog was still popular. For the first year of his tenure as Fake Steve Jobs, he remained anonymous creating a great deal of interest in speculation of who was behind the Secret Diary of Steve Jobs.

Lyons promises to start a new blog up, this time using his own name. No parodies this time, but we would hope that the same wit and humor is brought along with him to his new digs. He’s also announced a dead tree version of the former blog, with the “Greatest Hits” for fans who want to have a constant reminder, or a paper weight for their desk.
